Review: Vango Bamboo table (100cm)

A short and sweet post to make a change from the posts that take a couple of hours to write with details on solar panels, fridges, switches, lights :) This is the table we purchased for the 2019 adventures, the Vango 100cm bamboo table (Amazon link). We purchased ours from Charles Camping in Blessington, Wicklow, Ireland.

I’d been on a hunt for a table for a year or so - who knew it would take this long! Like always though, I enjoy nerding out and contemplating the various options available! For us, it needed to be a table that could be used inside the campervan as the main table for cooking/eating/working, as well as also be viable to use outside the van when we were in the situation to be able to do so under warm European sun. Lastly, it had to fit in the space just behind the driver’s seat. Of those three criteria, the previous table with the camper ticked those boxes for all except the ability to be able to sit outside as it was designed to link into the worktop as one of its legs: i.e. it couldn’t stand independently.

Most importantly for measurement purposes is the width: in a VW Transporter/California camper, the width for a table is 100cm, give or take. So, after much research of various options, trips to various camper shops, this Vango table was settled on. The legs fold up for packing away and depending on your space options, the table also folds in half. In a VW camper, we found that didn’t work for packing, however, I could envision in another model, it would be beneficial.

Nicely, it’s made from bamboo so it ticks the environmental box also. It’s sturdy, doesn’t seem to be falling apart after six months of continuous usage. Basically, it does its job as a table. And lastly, it has one killer feature: wine glass holders built in! Spot the notches at the end in the photo above.

What would I change? There are two height options for the legs and ideally, I’d love another height somewhere in between the two: there are some chairs we’ve used with it where the table is either a bit too high or too low. Still, it’s a small complaint :) And I can’t complain as it also doubled up as the ‘work’ table while studying for the final three months of the year and was more than sturdy to support the setup, right.

As of early 2020, it seems this specific Vango bamboo table is very hard to come by. Amazon has a wide range however available for anyone looking for a similar choice.
