
While most other people make the plan to do the Mont Blanc loop, i.e. the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB), our ideas usually end up compressing time. So the plan was to do ~100km of the TMB (and ideally the UTMB ultra-running route which has some small detours) over 3 days.
….what goes up must go down and from the summit col, it's a 750metre descent into the village of Trient before finding our night's accommodation: L'Auberge du Mont Blanc. For future reference to any other people replicating this adventure: this Auberge HAS A SAUNA!!!!!!
Have we all the right gear? Have we too much? Too little? Can we do it? Is this daft? As always at the start of something unknown. My only comfort was that we had the two most critical items: our passports and a payment card in the event we needed to bail off the route early and get back my public transport to Chamonix!

One of the tenets of New Years is around 'resolutions' and 'predictions' for the forthcoming year. Thankfully I've learned the lessons that starting a resolution to kick off the year usually fail in the first 3-4 weeks so tend to stay away from them, choosing goals based on my interests and motivations, not on an arbitrary date in the calendar.
