Globally, everything - voice and data- is in the process of (or is already) becoming data. It will soon become as natural to use something like WhatsApp to make a call and to think that SMS is quaint and outdated.


The next billion users are looking to buy phones, and they're not looking for basic feature phones. As they also have no legacy fixed networks, cabling, legacy businesses in place - it'll put them in a unique situation to make the most of a fresh start with business ideas and opportunities. No wonder some of the major Operators are making inroads with getting involved with mobile payments in African countries......
