New Zealand

Go for a walk in New Zealand and you'll come across countless waterfalls in various states of flow. On this occasion, this one was mild and sensible leaving the river to be crossable - but on another occasion, while staying at a remote hut, we wandered out in the middle of the storm to find the tiny stream we'd driven across was now deeper than our car leaving us stranded for two days(!). Fun times always make for good stories.

New Zealand

One of the many deserted beaches of New Zealand. Considering how much rubbish seems to regularly wash ashore on many of the beaches I've visited in the northern hemisphere, I don't have many memories of a lot of rubbish on these ones. Have I blocked them out?

3 hours standing in the snow and this gem appeared.

Watching the people attempting the jump even took guts. With wet, slushy, snow many of them were struggling to make enough speed to land on the down-slope and thus landing with a sickening thud onto the flat section after the big ramp. Turning away as pressing the camera trigger seemed to be the best solution!

Trekking along the Annapurna Circuit, you're always reminded of the scale of the mountains above. With an ascent to 6,000 metres, the circuit also gives you a push!

Taking on a challenge, myself and Naomi completed the full circuit in 9 days taking no sleeping bags, and only a single 30 litre and a 10-litre pack between us.

Cambodia

It's not always happy scenes while traveling. Going to see countries histories and sadness is also just as important. Here, a photo from the capital of Cambodia in one of the jail cells.

The photo in the background shows the room how it was found with bodies still in place.......

One of the most humbling place I've ever visited.

Australia
Australia

Just another typical sunset in Australia.

Note: there is no such thing as 'just' another sunset in Australia. Don't think I could ever tire of the beautiful light.

There's always something fascinating about time lapse photos, isn't there?

This little guy, a Kookaburra, became a regular friend while camping near a climbing area in the Grampian Mountains west of Australia.

Regularly, while making a sandwich for lunch, he'd swoop in and attempt to grab the sandwich off the plate in front of you (only being successful once). You can only laugh at these sort of situations.

The beak is designed for stabbing items when feeding.

Man's best friend.

We found this guy lost in the forests of the Blue Mountains and adopted him till we found him a good home. He became very friendly with pulling everyone's down jackets into a pile and making himself at home on top of them. Still though, it's hard to say no to a friendly dog.

In the end, a happy ending. He was micro-chipped so a local vet was able to contact the owner.

A short trip to the amazing forest of Fontainebleau, only an hour south of Paris, let to some stand-out photos. One of my favourites on a lazy rest-day walk after some rain.

A long-standing peak for aspiring climbers, it's one I'll have to go back for......

Fair Head, Northern Ireland
Fair Head, Northern Ireland

The Fair Head meet 2016. The annual gathering, put together by the local community (in particular Paul Swail), brought in an astounding 400-odd people this year, helped in part by the arrival of Alex Honnold for a 'interesting' talk about ethics and bolts in climbing (I'll link to the post on that...).

Just over the horizon sits Fair Head itself, if in the area, I highly recommend the short walk from the farm.

The history in these walls always intrigues me. In this day of instant expectations, I can only imagine how much time it took to build such a structure...

Rusted bolt, Doolan, Co. Clare, Ireland

This is a 3cm tall bolt that I've hung from countless times over the years (the orange at the bottom of the photo is the rope tied off). Again, from a distance, it holds its mysteries easily, but up close the wear and tear of being only 20 metres from the Atlantic Ocean make it apparent!

It's the typical shot but holds as always lots of intrigue:

- Who is going, or coming, to where?

- Age of the individuals?

- A group or single people?

- Local or foreign?
